Microsoft pushes for states to tackle software piracy

A recent Seattle Times article discusses Microsoft’s push on Washington’s state legislators to pass a law that makes it illegal for manufacturers that use pirated software to sell goods in the US. The angle from which the discussion comes from is “[…] unfair competition that occurs when stolen or misappropriated information technology is used to manufacture products sold or offered for sale in this state.” (SB 5449 – 2011-12). This is quite interesting from a policy perspective – nation-wide – (since it is expected that similar laws will be established in other states as well).
